Jackson County GAL/CASA

Our Program

Jackson County GAL/CASA is a volunteer-powered program that provides advocacy to child victims of abuse and neglect to ensure that they remain at the forefront of the court proceedings and find a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible. The program is funded through a variety of ever-changing sources. The primary sources of funding are the Jackson County Council and Indiana Supreme Court; additional funding sources include (but are not limited to) grants, private donations, private foundations, fundraisers, etc.

What is a GAL?

A Guardian ad litem is an attorney or a volunteer who is appointed by the court to represent the best interest of the child. A GAL who is not an attorney must complete the same court-approved training that is required for a court-appointed special advocate.

What is a CASA?

A Court Appointed Special Advocate is a volunteer for abused and neglected children. CASA volunteers are ordinary people doing extraordinary work to help children. CASA volunteers advocate for the child’s best interest and help them have a safe and permanent home as soon as possible. CASA volunteers are carefully trained, appointed by the court and supported by professional program staff. CASA programs mobilize, train and empower volunteers who make a difference by being there for a child in a very confusing and traumatic time. CASA volunteers help judges make more informed decisions about what is best for a child’s future.

Becoming a CASA volunteer

Every day, there are hundreds of abused and neglected Hoosier children who go to court alone or who have no one to speak up for them and to tell the court what they need while they are in foster care. Do you have what it takes to be a CASA volunteer? It’s a challenging but fulfilling role that will positively change a child’s life. . .and yours as well.

Mission Statement

Child Care Network, Inc.’s mission of “Improving the Lives of Children” includes being a child’s voice in court and helping to ensure the abused and neglected children of Jackson County live in a safe, permanent home as soon as possible.
